Mercury Is In Retrograde: What Does That Mean?
I’m sure you’ve heard the term “Mercury retrograde” at some point in your life, or heard a friend say, “Oh, no – Mercury is about to retrograde again!”, or maybe you haven’t.
The term “retrograde” is defined as directed or moving backward. So, technically speaking, Mercury retrograde means that the planet Mercury appears to move backwards (east to west rather than west to east) across the sky. Keep in mind that this apparent reversal in Mercury’s orbit is actually just an illusion to those viewing it from Earth, and happens three or four times a year.
Why does this cause so much chaos? It seems so harmless. Well, in astrology, each planet is associated with various aspects of life, and a retrograde period means there will be trouble involving the things associated with the planet in retrograde. Mercury is the planet associated with communication, media, travel and technology.
When Mercury’s in retrograde, people supposedly face difficulties in those areas of life. A website goes haywire, a backup randomly fails right as your computer stops running, details are missed, and even though you put extra love into that email it still comes off or is taken badly. Sounds great, right?
Whether you believe in the astrology part, the energy of it all can be downright overwhelming! Many of our clients who are not firm astrology believers know that this time of year just causes a bit more chaos.
So just a reminder and this goes for any time of the year- It’s better to be safe, so double check things! Double-check the fine print, look into that virus software you’ve been eyeballing, make sure that your backup is STILL RUNNING! Plus, allow yourself lots of extra time if something is going wrong. Step back, give it a few minutes, go for a walk, and come back to it. If you feel like you are banging your head against the wall, then it’s time to ask for help!
