Google Analytics are wonderful, unless you forget to set them up! I do this daily for one client or another, but when it comes to my own site… somehow I forgot to add the code!
Google analytics is a great tool for measuring and tracking how people are getting to your website, what they are looking at, how they are looking at your site and how many are getting to your site.
To get google analytics all you need is a gmail account, you can even set up a “gmail” account using any email. Sign in, set up a property (your URL), and copy and paste the code they give you into the header or footer of your website. (Lost already? Contact us and let us help!)
Now that you have them, don’t just forget them, use and learn from them:
1- set up a weekly/monthly/quarterly report so that you can see an overview of where your site is.
2- log in and look around. Sometimes you can find out cool things like, how many people are viewing your site from a mobile phone. You can see how many random people from China are finding and leaving you spam comments on your site.
3- set up a plugin so that when you log into your site, you can see how things are doing at a glance!
Why does this help? At least you know someone is looking at it, and maybe if you look in the behavior tab you can see what people are really liking on your site, so you can offer more of it, and draw in more people!
