Managing a VA
Communication is essential when it comes to working with a virtual assistant. They want to complete the tasks requested to the best of their ability. Be sure to communicate your expectations and requirements written as detailed as possible. Following up written expectations with a verbal conversation can improve understanding. Be sure to ask your virtual assistant if there are any questions about the material you have shared with them.
Check in with your virtual assistant periodically. Ask for status updates of projects assigned and be clear about due dates and expectations. It is good practice to have a meeting with your VA once a week and check in one to two times a day via email. This will help your VA stay on track and feel more connected to you and your company.
Give constructive criticism when needed, and train your VA if tasks are not being completed to your standards. They want to complete tasks the way you desire them to be completed. Oftentimes, being shown the way is necessary in the beginning. Virtual assistants want your constructive criticism so that they can grow and improve.
The simple things such as remembering a birthday or holiday is important when it comes to having a happy work relationship with your virtual assistant. Having those simple exchanges regarding holiday or event celebrations can mean the world to your VA. It will show that you consider them to be important to you and your company.
