Projects Made Simple your small business virtual assistant

Is virtual assisting the right job for you?

Virtual assistants work in a remote environment. They typically do not meet with their clients face to face. Most business is conducted through phone, email, or video call. This isn’t the right fit for everyone.

Being a virtual assistant requires a lot of self-discipline. It is easy to separate yourself from the work you are required to do for clients because you are not seeing them in person everyday. Making lists and keeping work calendars for deadlines can help virtual assistants stay on track. Be sure to keep said lists in a location that you see often in your home. It is easy to get distracted when working in a home environment. This will remind you of what work needs to be done and when.

If you struggle with working independently, being a VA is not the right job for you. Most of the time, a VA works independently. This can be an advantage to some and a hindrance to others. If you are not sure if this type of work is right for you, ask your potential employer for a trial period.

Flexible scheduling is a huge advantage to being a virtual assistant. You are not required to work at the exact same time everyday for a predetermined amount of time. This is a good thing for college students or new parents, but can be difficult for those who are prone to procrastination. Be sure to set reasonable deadlines for yourself, and stick to them.

Virtual Assisting not requiring a lot of communication is a common misconception. Good communication skills are extremely important when it comes to working as a VA. It can often be more important that in a traditional working environment because you do not see the clients everyday. You must have purposeful well constructed email correspondence and phone conversations regularly to give your clients their desired outcome. Do not let this deter you from becoming a VA. Luckily these skills can be easily learned.
